Villanelle has never been shown real love her entire life. it’s clear her mom used to verbally abuse her if the way she treats Bor’ka is any indication and that her mom constantly made her feel like shit.
She was dropped off randomly at an orphanage with no indictation of what would happen and didn’t have any family or anyone who cared about her there. Her entire life all she has been told is that she’s a monster incapable to love or be loved.
Villanelle is genuinely a terrified child who was never shown an ounce of love or compassion growing up and was programmed by The Twelve to assume she was a killer with no feelings.
Almost everyone in her life has told her she’s evil, or bad, or a monster, or someone not worthy of love so of course that would fuck up someone. Even with Anna, she was only loved by Anna conditionally and with manipulation.
Villanelle has never experienced true genuine love from someone who only wants the best for her which is why when Eve started to give a shit about her she got so attached. Eve was the first person ever to want to get her or understand her.
No one in her life has ever cared about her in the capacity Eve does. No one in her life has ever tried to understand her the way Eve does. No one has ever wanted to know her like Eve does.
Villanelle has spent her entire life trying to please people, make them love her or see her worth because all she ever was told growing up was that she was evil and a monster, and she just wants someone to see past that.
Eve was the first and only person to ever see past that. Eve wanted to know more about Villanelle, about why she did the things she did, about who she was, so of course Villanelle was drawn to her.
Villanelle grew up being told she was nothing and she was a monster, Eve is the first person who has ever looked at her and known what she’s done and still seen her as human and beautiful and lovable.
